Key Words
- holiday — a time when you do not work or study and often travel somewhere
- weather — the sun, rain, wind and temperature outside
- hotel — a place where you pay to stay and sleep when you are away from home
- friendly — kind and pleasant to other people
- show — a performance for people to watch, such as music or dancing
Useful Language
- the verb be — is, are, was, were (the weather is sunny; we are staying).
- there is / there are — use there to say something exists (there were some fish).
- Articles — a, an, the: use a before a noun (a beautiful place).
- to + verb — use to before a verb to show purpose (we are going to see a show).
- Prepositions of time — in January, on Monday, at night.
Exam Tip
In Part 5 you complete a short text or email. You write one word in each of the six gaps — there are no choices to pick from. The missing words are usually small grammar words such as articles (a, the), prepositions (in, on, to), pronouns, and parts of the verb be (is, are). Read the whole email first, then check that your word fits the grammar and is spelled correctly.
