Useful Language
- Verb + -ing — after some verbs we use the -ing form (they started wearing new clothes).
- Relative pronouns — that, which: use these for things (clothes that were popular).
- Quantifiers — most, much, lots: use most before a plural noun (most singers).
- too + adjective — too big, too small: too means “more than is good”.
- one of the + superlative — one of the biggest, one of the best.
- Present perfect with ever — has ever come, have you ever seen.
Exam Tip
In Part 4 you choose one word for each gap from three choices (A, B or C). Read the whole sentence before you choose — the words just before and after the gap give you the answer. Watch the grammar traps: after started use the -ing form (started wearing); use that for things; most goes before a plural noun; too big means “more than is good”; and use ever with the present perfect (has ever come).
