About the A2 Key Listening Test

What is the A2 Key Listening test?

The A2 Key Listening test is one of the papers in the Cambridge English A2 Key (KET) exam. It checks how well you understand spoken English in everyday situations — conversations, short talks, announcements and instructions. You hear every recording twice.

The five parts

  • 🎧 Part 1 — short conversations with picture multiple-choice questions
  • 📝 Part 2 — a monologue where you complete gaps in a set of notes
  • 💬 Part 3 — a longer conversation with multiple-choice questions
  • 🔑 Part 4 — five short recordings, each with one multiple-choice question
  • 🔗 Part 5 — a matching task (for example, names to activities or jobs)

Timing and scoring

The A2 Key Listening test takes about 30 minutes and has 25 questions. In this free practice test you get instant results by email, and a score of 70% or more earns a downloadable certificate.

How to do well

  • 👀 Read the questions before each recording starts
  • 👂 Listen for key information — names, times, places, prices and dates
  • ✍️ Check your spelling in Part 2, where you write words and numbers
  • ✅ Use the second listening to check your answers
