In this exercise you read a short text about how sea turtles live and choose the best word for each gap. This is good practice for Reading Part 4 of the A2 Key (KET) examination.

Key Words
- turtle — a sea animal with a hard shell that lives mostly in the water
- hard shell — the strong, hard cover over a turtle’s body that keeps it safe
- lay eggs — (of an animal) to produce eggs out of the body
- danger — the chance that something bad or harmful may happen
- beach — an area of sand or stones next to the sea
Useful Language
- if — use if to talk about a possible situation (they hide if they are in danger).
- Each + singular — each year, each day (use a singular noun after each).
- about = approximately — about a month later means “not exactly a month”.
- many + plural — many turtles, many problems (use a plural noun after many).
- the — use the for a particular group (the baby turtles).
- from — light from the moon shows where something comes from.
Exam Tip
In Part 4 you choose one word for each gap from three choices (A, B or C). Read the whole sentence before you choose — the words just before and after the gap give you the answer. Watch the grammar traps: use if for a possible situation; use a singular noun after each (each year); about means “approximately”; use a plural noun after many; use the for a particular group; and from shows where something comes from (light from the moon).
