Key Words
- flat — a set of rooms for living in, usually on one floor of a building
- stay — to remain in a place for a period of time
- sunny — with a lot of bright sunlight
- show — a performance for people to watch, such as music or theatre
- doctor — a person whose job is to treat people who are ill
Useful Language
- in / at — use in for a city, at for a smaller place; both can work with a place name.
- study to be / become — both mean training for a future job.
- go home to — use to before the place you are travelling to.
- by + transport — by bus, by train, by car.
- see / watch — both can be used with a show.
- some of — use of before a group (some of his friends).
Exam Tip
In Part 5 you complete a short text or email. You write one word in each of the six gaps — there are no choices to pick from. Sometimes more than one word is possible (for example, in or at, be or become, see or watch). Read the whole email first, then check that your word fits the grammar and is spelled correctly.
