Key Words

• attractive / good-looking / pretty — all describe someone who looks nice — near-synonyms, though pretty is used more often for girls and women
• fair — can describe light-coloured hair or skin — or it can mean “just and reasonable”, a very different meaning
• well-known — a compound adjective meaning famous — lots of people know about this person
• aged — can mean “having a particular age” (a woman aged 40) or “very old” (an aged man)
• dressed — a past participle used as an adjective — often paired with another word, like well-dressed or smartly dressed

Sort these words into two groups to help you remember them — words that describe what someone looks like (attractive, pretty, fair, dressed), and words that describe what someone is like as a person or how they feel (kind, friendly, afraid, angry, excited, interested). This will help you use each word in the right kind of sentence.
