How to Play Sentence Scramble

Sentence Scramble is a free online word-order game. The words of an English sentence are mixed up and you tap them back into the correct order. It’s one of the best ways to build a natural feel for English sentence structure.

Step by step

  1. Look at the jumbled words on screen.
  2. Decide which word should come first — usually the subject.
  3. Tap the words one by one to build the sentence in order.
  4. Tap a word again to send it back if you change your mind.
  5. Complete the correct sentence to score.

Tips to get the order right

  • Find the subject and verb first, then arrange the rest around them.
  • Remember the usual English order: subject – verb – object.
  • Look for capital letters and full stops — they mark the start and end.

Who it’s for

Sentences are levelled from CEFR Pre-A1 to B1, so Sentence Scramble suits beginner and elementary ESL learners and makes a clear, focused classroom task.
