Key Vocabulary
- scarf — a piece of cloth you wear around your neck to keep warm
- bakery — a shop that makes and sells bread and cakes
- garage — a place where cars are repaired
- give someone a lift — to take someone somewhere in your car
- weather forecast — information that tells you what the weather will be like
Useful Language
Telling the time: twelve o’clock · half past twelve · one o’clock
Talking about the weather: It’s raining quite hard. · It was cloudy and windy. · It will be sunny tomorrow.
Making and changing plans: Shall we…? · I don’t think that’s a good idea. · We can go then.

For each question, choose the correct answer.
1. What does Anna want to buy?
M Good morning! Can I help you?
F Yes, please. I need something for my mum’s birthday tomorrow.
M How about some flowers? We have beautiful roses today. Or maybe a nice scarf?
F That’s a good idea, but I think I’ll buy her favourite chocolate cake from the bakery next door instead.

2. What time is lunch?
F I’m getting hungry, Ben. When do we eat lunch today?
M Usually we eat at twelve o’clock, but today the kitchen is closed for cleaning.
F Oh no! What shall we do?
M Don’t worry. I thought about half past twelve, but we can eat at one o’clock in the school café instead.

3. How will Mark go to work tomorrow?
F Mark, is your car working now?
M No, it’s still broken. The garage said they need two more days to fix it.
F So, how will you get to work tomorrow? Will you take the bus? Or maybe the train?
M Actually, my neighbour offered to give me a lift in his car. That’s very kind of him.

4. What’s the weather like today?
M Shall we go to the park this afternoon, Lucy?
F I don’t think that’s a good idea. Look outside!
M Oh yes, it’s raining quite hard. I thought it was just cloudy and windy this morning.
F The weather forecast said it will be sunny tomorrow. We can go then.

5. Where does Kate’s brother work?
M Kate, doesn’t your brother work in a bank?
F No, that’s my cousin. My brother works in the big supermarket in the town centre.
M Oh right. Didn’t he work in the hospital before?
F Yes, he did. But he says the people who work in the supermarket are very friendly.
