Key Vocabulary

- look after — to take care of someone
- shelves — flat boards on a wall where you keep books or other things
- customer — a person who buys something in a shop
- cash register — the machine in a shop where you pay (also called the till)

Exam Tip
In Part 5 you match each person to one job. Listen to what each person will do (making pizzas, looking after children, finding books) and match it to the job. There are more options (A to H) than people, so some are not used.

Part 5: Summer Jobs
You will hear a girl, Sophie, talking to her dad about the summer jobs her classmates have got. What summer job does each of her classmates have? For each question, choose the correct answer, A to H.
You now have 10 seconds to look at Part Five.
Sophie Dad, guess what! Five of my friends have found summer jobs!
Dad That’s great! What about Jack?
Sophie He’s really lucky! He’s going to work at that new pizza place in town. He’ll be making pizzas and serving customers.
Dad That’s a good job for a teenager. And what about Lucy?
Sophie She loves children, so she’s going to look after the Miller family’s kids while their parents are at work. She’ll play games with them and take them to the park.
Dad She’ll be great at that! What is Tom doing?
Sophie You know how Tom loves books? Well, he got a job at the public library. He’ll be helping people find books and putting them back on the shelves.
Dad Perfect for him! And what about Chloe?
Sophie She’s working at the sports centre. She’ll be teaching young children how to swim in the pool there.
Dad That sounds fun! What about Emma?
Sophie Emma got a job at the clothing store in the shopping mall. She’ll be helping customers try on clothes and working at the cash register.
