Family and Home
This unit, Family and Home, helps you talk about the people in your family and where you live. You’ll learn how to describe family members, your house or flat, and the rooms and furniture in your home. You’ll also read about teenagers and their families from different countries, and learn how homes can be similar or different around the world.

✍️ What to do
This week, tell your classmates about your family and home. Write a short paragraph. You should include:
- 5–6 sentences about your family and home
- how many people are in your family
- use have got / has got (e.g. I have got two brothers)
- what your family members do or like
- something about your home or room
- a question (e.g. “Do you have any sisters?”)
💡 Useful vocabulary
People: mother, father, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, cousin.
Rooms: living room, bedroom, kitchen.

Hello! My name is Anna, and I live in a house in the countryside. I live with my mum, dad, and my twin brothers. My mum is a nurse, and my dad works at a bakery. We have got a big house with a garden. There are four bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room.
I like my bedroom because it’s quiet and pink. My brothers share a room and play games there every evening. At the weekend, we have lunch together and watch a movie in the living room.

Record a short speech (about 45–60 seconds) about where you live. Try to include at least 5–6 sentences.
- ✔ Say where you live (e.g. house, flat, village, city).
- ✔ Mention two or more rooms in your home.
- ✔ Use there is / there are to describe what is in the rooms.
- ✔ Use at least one preposition (e.g. next to, under, in, between).
- ✔ Speak slowly and clearly.
💡 Useful vocabulary
Rooms & things: kitchen, bedroom, living room, bathroom, garden, sofa, bed, table, window, door.
Prepositions of place: in, on, under, next to, between, opposite.

I live in a small house in the countryside. There is a kitchen and a big living room. In the living room, there is a sofa next to the window. My bedroom is upstairs. There is a bed and a desk under the window. I love my home because it’s quiet and comfortable.

I have got a small family. I live with my mum and my brother. My mum is a doctor, and my brother goes to school. We have got a big living room and a nice kitchen. Every evening, we eat dinner together and talk about our day. I love my family.
