Listen to a conversation and choose the correct answer.
Listening Part 3
Listen to a conversation between Emma and her friend Jake talking about their weekend activities. This A2 Key Listening Part 3 practice task helps you focus on identifying key information in spoken dialogues. Answer five multiple-choice questions, each with three options, to test your understanding and prepare for the Cambridge English A2 Key Listening exam.
- ⏱️ Weekend Activities takes 10–20 minutes
- 💡 Identify key information in spoken dialogues
- 📶 A2 — the developing stages of learning English
Key Vocabulary
- fully booked — with no places left; completely reserved
- housework — the jobs you do to keep a house clean and tidy
- crowded — full of people
- treasure hunt — a game where you follow clues to find hidden things
- originally — at the start; in the first plan
Useful Language
At the sports centre: rock climbing (fully booked) · tennis · swimming pool
Emma’s weekend: shopping (cancelled) · housework · an action film
Party games: treasure hunt · video games · dancing
Exam Tip
In Part 3 you choose A, B or C. All three options are usually mentioned, so listen for the one the speakers finally chose — the first answer you hear is often a distractor (rock climbing before tennis; the treasure hunt before the video games).
Drag the words into the correct gaps to practise the key language from this lesson.
Part 3: Weekend Activities
You will hear Emma and her friend Jake talking about their weekend activities. For each question, choose the correct answer.
You now have twenty seconds to look at Part Three.
Emma Hi, Jake. How was your weekend? I heard you went to the new sports centre.
Jake Yes. It was fantastic. I wanted to try rock climbing, but it was fully booked, so I did tennis instead. I’m definitely going back next week to try the swimming pool.
Emma That sounds great. I had a busy weekend too. On Saturday, I was planning to go shopping with my mum, but she felt sick, so I stayed home and helped with the housework instead.
Jake Oh, that’s a shame about your mum. Is she feeling better now?
Emma Yes, much better. Thanks. On Sunday, I finally went to see that new action film at the cinema. At first, I thought it would be too scary, but it was actually really funny and exciting.
Jake I love action films. Was the cinema crowded?
Emma Not too bad. The tickets were quite expensive though, twelve pounds each, but the popcorn was cheap and the seats were really comfortable. How about your Sunday?
Jake I went to my cousin’s birthday party. We had it at their house instead of the restaurant like they originally planned. The weather was terrible, really windy and cold, but at least it didn’t rain.
Emma That’s good. What did you do at the party?
Jake We played lots of games. I thought the treasure hunt would be my favourite, but the video games were much more fun. The dancing was okay, but I’m not very good at it.
Emma Sounds like you both had good weekends despite the changes in plans.
Jake Absolutely. Sometimes unexpected things turn out to be even better.
Now listen again.
That is the end of Part Three.
