- All the intermediate-level exercises take about 80 minutes.
- Learn to talk about food, health and routines, plus a healthy life.
- Set at an expanding stage of learning English (CEFR B1 or WIDA 4.0)
Instructions:
Write a short post (5–7 sentences) answering the question:
1. Do you think your lifestyle is healthy? Why or why not?
2. Include details about what you eat, how often you exercise, and your daily routine.
Useful phrases:
I try to eat… / I usually avoid…
I exercise… / I walk to…
I think I should… / I know I need to…
Example:
I think my lifestyle is mostly healthy, but there are some things I need to improve. I usually eat three meals a day, and I try to include vegetables and fruit. I drink a lot of water and rarely have soda. For exercise, I walk to school and do a short workout at home twice a week.
However, I don’t always get enough sleep, especially on school nights. I know I should go to bed earlier. Overall, I think I’m doing okay, but I want to improve my sleep routine.
Instructions:
Read the text and answer the questions
Reading Text: My Morning Routine for a Healthy Start
I used to wake up late, skip breakfast, and rush to school feeling tired and stressed. But a few months ago, I decided to change my routine to feel healthier and more focused.
Now, I wake up at 6:30 every morning. The first thing I do is drink a big glass of water to rehydrate. Then, I stretch for ten minutes to wake up my body. After that, I prepare a healthy breakfast. My usual meal is oatmeal with fruit and a cup of green tea. Sometimes, I have scrambled eggs and whole-grain toast. I try to avoid sugary cereals because they don’t give me enough energy for the day.
Once I finish eating, I quickly check my school bag and prepare my lunch. I usually pack something simple like a sandwich, fruit, and a bottle of water. I try not to eat too many snacks during the day, but if I get hungry, I bring almonds or yoghurt.
This routine takes about an hour, but it really helps me feel calm and ready. Since I started this habit, I’ve had more energy at school and I don’t feel so rushed in the mornings. A healthy routine isn’t hard — it just takes a little planning and commitment.
Instructions:
Record yourself speaking for 1–2 minutes.
In your recording, answer the following questions in full sentences:
- What do you usually eat in a typical day? (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- What do you do to stay healthy or active?
- What is one healthy habit you want to improve or start?
- Do you think your daily routine is balanced? Why or why not?
Language Support:
- I usually start my day with..
- For lunch, I often eat…
- To stay healthy, I…
- I think I should….
- My routine is healthy because…
Example Response:
A healthy day for me starts with a good breakfast. I usually eat oatmeal with banana and drink a glass of water. For lunch, I often have rice with vegetables and some chicken. I try to avoid fried food during the week.
To stay healthy, I go for a walk after dinner or do some stretching. I also drink water throughout the day and try not to eat too many snacks. I usually go to bed at 10:30 so I can get enough sleep.
One habit I want to improve is exercising more regularly. I sometimes skip workouts because of homework or because I feel tired. I think I should make a schedule and stick to it.
Overall, I think my daily routine is quite healthy. I eat balanced meals and try to stay active, but I know I can do better if I plan my time more carefully.
Instructions
Write a paragraph (8–10 sentences) about your healthy habits.
In your paragraph, include:
- What you usually eat during the day (meals or snacks)
- What you do to stay healthy or fit
- One thing you want to improve or start doing
- At least two adverbs of frequency
- At least one modal verb (should, must, need to)
Tip:
- Do your sentences make sense?
- Did you use the present simple?
- Did you include adverbs like usually, sometimes, never?
Model Paragraph:
I usually start my day with a healthy breakfast, like eggs and toast. For lunch, I often eat rice and vegetables, and I drink a lot of water throughout the day. In the evening, I sometimes eat pasta or soup. To stay fit, I walk to school and do yoga twice a week. I rarely eat junk food because I want to stay healthy. One thing I want to improve is my sleep. I go to bed too late, so I think I should sleep earlier. Overall, I try to live a healthy lifestyle, but there’s always room to improve.
