How to Play Spot the Mistake
Spot the Mistake is a free online English error-correction game. Each sentence hides one grammar mistake — your job is to find it and choose the correct version. It builds the proofreading and self-editing skills that make your own writing more accurate.
Step by step
- Read the sentence carefully — there is exactly one grammar error.
- Identify the part that’s wrong (a verb tense, an article, a preposition, agreement, and so on).
- Choose the correct replacement from the options.
- Score a point for each mistake you correctly fix.
Tips to spot errors
- Check the verb first — tense and subject–verb agreement are the usual culprits.
- Look at small words: a/an/the, in/on/at and plurals trip people up.
- Read the sentence aloud in your head — errors often “sound” wrong.
