In this A2 Listening Part 4 activity, Emma and her mum plan her birthday party. Listen and choose the correct letter — A, B or C — for each question.

You will hear Emma and her mum talking about her birthday party.

N: What kind of party does Emma want?
Emma: Mum, my birthday is next week! Can we plan my party?
Mum: Of course, Emma. What kind of party would you like?
Emma: Well, I don’t want a swimming party because it’s too cold.
Mum: What about a pizza party?
Emma: That sounds good, but I think I’d like a cinema party most of all. We could watch a film together!
N: Can you see the letter A? Now you listen and choose the correct letter — A, B or C.
N: One. Where will Emma’s party be?
Mum: So where shall we have this cinema party? At the big cinema in town?
Emma: No, that’s too far away.
Mum: What about the outdoor cinema in the park?
Emma: I don’t like that one much, and what happens if it rains? Can we have it at home? We could use our TV and make it really cosy!
Mum: That’s a great idea, Emma!
N: Two. What activity does Emma want most at her party?
Emma: What can we do at the party besides watching the film?
Mum: We could play some party games. Musical chairs is always fun!
Emma: Yes, but I’d rather make popcorn with my friends. That would be so exciting!
Mum: That sounds lovely.
Emma: We could also dance after the film, but I think making popcorn together would be the best.
N: Three. What kind of cake will they have?
Emma: What about the birthday cake, Mum?
Mum: Would you like a chocolate or vanilla cake?
Emma: Actually, I’d prefer something different this year.
Mum: How about a strawberry cake?
Emma: Perfect! And can we put some candles on it?
Mum: Of course! A strawberry cake with candles it is.
N: Four. What will Mum do at the party?
Emma: What will you do during the party? Will you watch the film with us?
Mum: I thought about it, but I think you’d have more fun with just your friends.
Emma: So, will you go shopping or go to the gym while we’re having the party?
Mum: No, I’ll stay home. I want to take photos of you and your friends having fun, and help if you need anything.
Emma: That’s perfect, Mum!
N: Five. How will most of Emma’s friends get to the party?
Emma: How will my friends come to our house for the party?
Mum: Well, I know Mai’s taking a taxi, as her family doesn’t have a car.
Emma: What about Sarah? She lives quite far away.
Mum: I think she’s going to take the bus.
Emma: And what about the others?
Mum: I think most of their parents will bring them by car. It’s the safest way.
